Dallas pins down title, top seed

Dallas wrapped up a Wyoming Valley Conference championship Thursday with a 5-0 victory over MMI Prep, allowing the Mountaineers to protect their top ranking in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Boys Tennis Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The tennis regular season concluded Thursday and the postseason begins Monday with quarterfinals in the District 2 Class 3A and 2A team tournaments.

Dallas, which has been the No. 1 team in each of the Elite Eight rankings this season, is the top seed in Class 2A. The Mountaineers are 9-0 and have allowed only one team point against them this season.

Abington Heights, which wrapped up a Lackawanna League championship Monday, remained in the second spot. The Comets, who posted 12 shutouts in a 13-0 season, are the top seed in District 2 Class 3A.

The only change in this week’s rankings is in the third and fourth spots where Valley View passed Wyoming Seminary after the Blue Knights suffered their first WVC and second overall loss Monday against Dallas, 5-0.

The fifth through eighth spots remained the same after Scranton Prep, Scranton, Delaware Valley and Wyoming Area combined to go 9-1. The only loss in that group came when Scranton fell to unbeaten Abington Heights.
