MESHOPPEN – Riverside’s Daniel Danilovitz won by more than 38 seconds and Nate Sinkovich finished second to lead Montrose to the team title Thursday morning in Class A boys at the District 2 Cross Country Championships.
Danilovitz finished the 3.1-mile Wyoming County Fairgrounds course in 16:46.3.
Dunmore’s Tommy Clark and Joseph Cardillo placed third and fourth, followed by Heath Bowker, who was fifth to lead Blue Ridge to the second team berth available at the state meet.
The Montrose and Blue Ridge teams and 10 other individuals, led by Danilovitz, qualified to run at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships Nov. 6 on the Hershey Parkview Course.
Montrose won the team title with 42 points and Blue Ridge edged Dunmore, 69-77.
Danilovitz, Clark and Cardillo are joined as individual qualifiers by Lackawanna Trail’s Brayden Clarke, Wyoming Seminary’s Jack Noveli, Elk Lake’s Justice Johnson, MMI Prep’s Woobie Kupsky, Mountain View’s Cohen Anderson, Holy Cross’ Teddy Novak and Elk Lake’s Dylan Way.
Sinkovich got help from Logan Birchard and James Bixby in 10th and 11th, then Nick Harder and Andrew Chidester in 14th and 15th to lock up the team title for Montrose.
Duncan Geyer, Max Ksenich, Dawson Stepniak and Andrew Kowalewski finished between 15th and 23rd to help Blue Ridge make up for Dunmore’s 11-point advantage over the Raiders in the first two spots.
