DUNMORE – Danny Nemitz scored a team-high 20 points, including the game-winning basket, Saturday while leading Lackawanna over Luzerne, 144-142, in the second annual 570 Sports Show Senior Boys Basketball All-Star Game.
Mid Valley’s Nemitz was named MVP of the Lackawanna team, which was made up of players from around the Lackawanna League.
Holy Redeemer’s Zach Perta earned his second MVP award in less than 24 hours. A team MVP in the Dr. George P. Moses Wyoming Valley Conference Senior Classic Friday night, he was honored again Saturday for leading the Luzerne team. The team was made up of players around the WVC plus Northwest.
Elk Lake’s Wyatt Casselbury, a member of the Lackawanna team, won the Slam Dunk Contest at halftime.
Luzerne build a 20-point halftime lead before Lackawanna rallied.
Danny Nemitz and his cousin, North Pocono’s A.J. Nemitz, each hit three 3-pointers in the second half.
Gabe Gonzales from Holy Cross had eight points in the third quarter to help get the comeback started.
Crestwood’s Drew Sechleer had started fast for Luzerne with 10 first-quarter points.
Tunkhannock’s Dylan Mateus hit 3-pointers in each quarter and Sechleer also made four 3-pointers.
A.J. Nemitz was second to his cousin in Lackawanna scoring with 14 points.
Patrick Walsh from Abington Heights and Gonzales added 12 points each in the win. Logan Tierney from Holy Cross and Frankie Antoniacci from Riverside added 11 points each while Casselbury scored 10.
The Luzerne team had eight players score in double figures.
Perta led the way with 21 points.
Sechleer added 18 points, Tunkhannock’s Ben Chilson 17, Berwick’s Sean Murphy had 17, Mateus 16, Wyoming Valley West’s Zach Konopke 13, Holy Redeemer’s Jacob Hunter 12 and Wyoming Valley West’s Emmanuel Lewis had 11.
The doubleheader was played at Marywood University.
