District 2 recap – Saturday, 4/8

Action slowed somewhat around the holidays but several baseball, softball and lacrosse teams took advantage of a Saturday to get in some games. Find all the scores at: Saturday’s District 2 scoreboard – NEPA Sports Nation.

Here are some of the day’s highlights:


Caly Yankow scored five goals as Abington Heights defeated Dallas, 18-12, in a Wyoming Valley Conference girls lacrosse meeting of unbeatens.

Abington Heights led 8-4 before Dallas scored the last two goals of the first half and first of the second to get within 8-7. The Comets pulled away and remained in front throughout the entire second half.

Bella DeRiggi and Allie Rothenberger added three goals each in the win.

Gabby Rogaski scored four goals while Ireland Walsh and Braylee Walsh had three each for Dallas.


Gianna Adams, Pittston Area softball – Adams struck out 12 in a five-hitter and had two hits during a 3-2, non-league victory over North Pocono.

Max Forgione, Dunmore baseball — Forgione hit a walk-off, two-run homer to lift Bucks to their first win, completing the leadoff hitter’s 3-for-4 effort in 4-3 victory over West Scranton.

Kaya Hannon and McKenzie Hannon, Tunkhannock softball – The Hannon sisters led an 11-0, five-inning win in a non-league game at Pleasant Valley. Kaya, the leadoff hitter, was 3-for-4 with a double and run scored while throwing a one-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks. McKenzie was 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI.

Tyler Scoblick, Valley View baseball – Scoblick doubled, singled and drove in six runs in Valley View’s 16-6, six-inning, non-league victory over Wyoming Area. He also struck out four in 2 1/3 innings as the starting pitcher.

Amanda Voll, Elk Lake softball – Voll tossed a three-hit shutout with a walk and seven strikeouts in a 6-0, non-league win over Wyoming Area. She also had two hits and drove in four runs.


Pittston Area rallied past North Pocono in a non-league meeting of 2022 softball division champions.

Leadoff hitter Ainsley O’Donnell went 3-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI for North Pocono, which scored in the top of the first and held a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third.

Pittston Area went ahead for the first time with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, then held on when North Pocono rallied for one run in the top of the seventh.

Adams allowed just one earned run for Pittston Area, the unbeaten, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class 5A champion a year ago.

Ava Callahan was 3-for-4 with n RBI in the win. Gabby Gorzkowski, Cassie Hintze and Adams added two hits each to get past last year’s Lackawanna League Division 2 champions.


Easton rallied from a three-goal, halftime deficit to hand Delaware Valley its first loss of the season in boys lacrosse, 11-10.

The Warriors had started the season 6-0.

Easton had three players score three goals each. Peyton LaRocco had four goals and three assists to lead Delaware Valley, which got 19 saves from goalie Connor Gaughan.
