KINGSTON – When Dallas defeated Wyoming Area, 3-2, Tuesday, the Mountaineers captured more than the Wyoming Valley Conference boys tennis title.
The Mountaineers also secured the District 2 Class 2A top seed and knocked Wyoming Area down to the third spot.
Immediately after the match concluded, District 2 set the pairings for the upcoming team tournament.
Unbeaten Lackawanna League champion Abington Heights is the top seed in Class 3A.
The two unbeaten, top seeds are also the defending champions of their tournaments.
Wyoming Valley West opted out of participating in the team tournament, opening the eighth spot in Class 3A for Wilkes-Barre Area, which will play at Abington Heights.
District 2 also has a schedule in place for its singles and doubles tournaments.
Singles play begins May 11 at 9 a.m. with the first three rounds of Class 2A at Kirby Park and Class 3A at the nearby Wilkes University courts. The semifinals and finals are set for May 12, beginning at 1 p.m. at Kirby Park.
The doubles tournaments do not begin until after the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association team tournament May 16.
Early-round doubles play begins May 17 at 9 a.m. with Class 2A at Kirby Park and Class 3A at the North Pocono Middle School. The last two rounds are scheduled for the next day, starting at 1 p.m.
The date and time of all but one team quarterfinal have been set.
