All three District 2 champions will open the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state field hockey tournament on their home fields Tuesday.
Crestwood (18-2) will get it started at home at 5 p.m. against Villa Maria Academy (18-3-1) at 5 p.m. in Class 2A in a rematch of Crestwood’s last state championship and last state final appearance. The Lady Comets beat Villa Maria, 1-0, in overtime in the 2012 Class 2A final, then lost, 2-1, when the teams met again in the 2014 Class 2A final.
Villa Maria Academy finished as the District 1 runner-up while Crestwood won the District 2-4 Subregional.
Wyoming Seminary (18-2) is home at Klassner Field in Class A at 6 against Susquehanna Township, the fifth-place finisher from District 3 with a 17-5 record.
Hazleton Area (13-7) makes its state tournament debut at 6:30 against District 1 fourth-place finisher Methacton (17-5).
Wyoming Area, the District 2 runner-up in Class A, is also in the state tournament, but on the road. The Lady Warriors (17-2) have a rematch with District 4 champion Bloomsburg on the same field where it won, 2-0, Sept. 25.
