UPDATED: District mat pairings

Lackawanna League divisional champions Abington Heights and Lackawanna Trail were confirmed as the top seeds for the District 2 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships when the district announced pairings on its website Sunday.

Following the initial release, District 2 changed the starting times for four of the eight matches. Those times are listed below.

Abington Heights, the Lackawanna Division 1 champion, is the top seed in Class 3A.

Defending district champion and Lackawanna Division 2 champion Lackawanna Trail leads the Class 2A field.

Both teams had clinched at least first-place ties earlier, then took titles outright with dominant performances Saturday. Abington Heights beat Scranton, 62-9, while Lackawanna Trail downed Montrose, 57-12.

Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champion Hazleton Area is the second seed in Class 3A.

In Class 2A, the top four teams are all from the Lackawanna League.

Lackawanna Trail is followed by Honesdale, Western Wayne and Montrose.

WVC Division 2 champion Wyoming Area is the fifth seed.

Seedings were determined based on the District 2 Power Rankings formula through all matches that were completed by the end of Saturday.

Higher seeds will host duals in all rounds this year, replacing the clusters that brought at least four teams in one site in each step in previous tournaments.

Action is set to begin Monday when seven of the eight quarterfinals are contested. The quarterfinal round concludes Monday, then the four semifinals are scheduled Wednesday.

Finals are set for Saturday.

Berwick, which would have been the sixth seed, declined to participate, moving two teams up in Class 3A and allowing Crestwood into the field.

There are no consolation matches in this year’s tournament.

The district will not charge admission for quarterfinal or semifinal matches, but finals will be $7 for adults and $4 for students. There will be no ticket sales at the door. Fans must purchase tickets for the finals in advance through the district’s website.
