DV boys, Dallas girls open at No. 1

The Delaware Valley boys and Dallas girls are the top-ranked teams in the preseason Riverfront Sports Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 swimming teams.

The season’s first set of rankings was released Wednesday night.

Teams are allowed to begin competition Friday and both leagues in District 2 open next week.

Dallas opens the season in the same spot where it ended last season after going undefeated in the Wyoming Valley Conference, then winning the District 2 championship and finishing sixth in the state in Class 2A.

With a lineup heavy in contributions from underclassmen, Delaware Valley was a second-place team last season, both in the Lackawanna League and District 2 Class 3A.

Delaware Valley is followed, in order, in the boys rankings by Dallas, Wyoming Seminary, Hazleton Area, Scranton Prep and Tunkhannock.

Dallas won the District 2 Class 2A title.

Hazleton Area, the final No. 1 team last season, was both the WVC and District 2 Class 3A champion.

Scranton Prep went unbeaten in the Lackawanna League.

The Dallas girls are followed by Wyoming Seminary, Scranton Prep, Tunkhannock, Delaware Valley and Valley View.

The top half of the girls rankings are the same as at the end of last season.

Scranton Prep has won six straight Lackawanna League titles and Delaware Valley has won six straight District 2 Class 3A championships.
