DV boys win two, remain unbeaten

Delaware Valley defeated a pair of New York State opponents to match Port Jervis, another New York State school, as the top teams in the Delaware Valley Classic boys basketball event Tuesday and Wednesday.

The event is played as two doubleheaders with a pre-determined schedule and does not declare a champion.

Delaware Valley defeated Minisink Valley, 61-37, Tuesday then edged Pine Bush, 63-57, Wednesday to improve its overall record to 6-0.

Port Jervis, which Delaware Valley defeated earlier this season, topped Pine Bush, 63-46, and Minisink Valley, 60-47.

The Warriors displayed extreme offensive balance in their two wins.

Jake Brower scored 14 points against Minisink Valley while 4 teammates added between 7 and 9 points. Six Delaware Valley players each hit one 3-pointer.

Tommy Parker led the win over Pine Bush with 13 points. Brower and Chris U’Glay added 12 each while Isaiah Berrios scored 10.

Pine Bush led 14-11 after one quarter, but by allowing just five second-quarter points, Delaware Valley took a 21-19 halftime lead.

The Warriors then scored 21 points in each of the last two quarters.

Parker had 10 his points in the second half.

Berrios made three 3-pointers for nine points in the third quarter. Brower scored 10 in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors made 11 shots from 3-point range while getting just 7 baskets inside the arc.

U’Glay matched Berrios with three 3-pointers while Parker and Brower each hit two.
