DV, Trail, Scranton rejoin rankings

Delaware Valley and Lackawanna Trail used road playoff victories to return to the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Football Power Rankings.

Scranton, which also rejoined, along with Valley View and Dallas, which both moved up, gained ground with home-field wins.

Crestwood, in Big Schools, and Lakeland, in Small Schools, continue to hold down No. 1 spot in the rankings, which are compiled by our partners at NEPAFootball.com

The top-ranked Comets and Valley View are one week from a potential No. 1-vs.-No. 2 playoff meeting, but first Valley View needs to navigate a No. 2-vs.-No. 3 game.

Crestwood, coming off a 61-7 rout of Nanticoke, hosts Berwick in the District 2 Class 4A semifinals. The game is the only one of the weekend still currently scheduled for Friday.

Valley View hosts Dallas Saturday night after routing Honesdale, 54-7. Dallas beat Wyoming Area, 49-28, in another District 2 Class 4A quarterfinal.

Hazleton Area dropped from second to fourth after having its season ended by Bethlehem Freedom, 38-0, in the District 2-4-11 Class 6A Subregional quarterfinals.

Delaware Valley and Scranton moved back into the rankings with wins in the District 2 Class 5A semifinals.

They meet in Thursday’s final at Scranton.

Delaware Valley knocked Pittston Area out of the rankings, 41-0, and Scranton handled Abington Heights, 42-7.

Wilkes-Barre Area, which also lost in the 6A Subregional, also fell from the rankings.

Lakeland remained undefeated with a 69-29 romp over Holy Redeemer and hosts Small School No. 4 Dunmore Thursday night for the District 2 Class 2A title.

Western Wayne, Scranton Prep and Dunmore held second through fourth.

No. 2 Western Wayne will host No. 3 Scranton Prep Saturday night for the District 2 Class 3A title.

Western Wayne defeated Carbondale, 36-7, and Scranton Prep topped Lake-Lehman, 42-7, in last week’s semifinals.

Dunmore held fourth with a 17-14 victory that knocked Riverside out of the rankings.

Lackawanna Trail rejoined the rankings in fifth when it was on the District 2 Class A title in overtime at Old Forge, 24-21. The Lions host Jenkintown Thursday in the District 1-2 Class A Subregional final.

Old Forge dropped from fifth to sixth.
