DV, Valley West reach 6A semifinals

Four first-inning runs were enough for Delaware Valley, but not for Wilkes-Barre Area Tuesday.

Delaware Valley used that as a start on its way to a 7-1 victory over Scranton while Wyoming Valley West overcame a five-run deficit to defeat Wilkes-Barre Area, 6-5, in the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional baseball quarterfinals.

The results set up Thursday’s 4:30 p.m. semifinals where the quarterfinal winners take on the top two seeds, both of which had byes.

Fourth-seeded Delaware Valley (10-11) goes to top seed and defending champion Hazleton Area (16-4).

Wyoming Valley West, trying to delay coach Ron Musto’s resignation a few more days, takes its 11-10 record to Williamsport (12-6).

Everett Bell went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI for Delaware Valley, which led 7-0 after four innings.

Jackson Corrie pitched 6 2/3 innings for the win.

Aidan Hyams added a double and single while Isaiah Berrios had a double and two RBI.

Thor Kelly had two hits and drove in the only Scranton run.

Wilkes-Barre Area scored again in the top of the second for a 5-0 lead, but Wyoming Valley West then began working its way back.

Max Lopuhovsky singled off the fence – on a hit that would have been good for extra bases, if needed – to drive in Aaron Klosko with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
