The National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I field hockey Final Four featured 44 players from Pennsylvania high schools this season, but just one was a Wyoming Valley Conference graduate.
Emily Farrell, a junior back from Dallas, was part of the Penn State team that went 17-4 and reached the national semifinal before falling, 3-0, to eventual champion North Carolina Nov. 18.
Farrell played in the NCAA Tournament, but not in the Final Four game.
In three years at Penn State, Farrell has played in 25 games, making 5 starts, including 13 games and 4 starts this season. She came off the bench in a 5-0, first-round victory over Louisville, but did not appear in either of the other two games as Penn State used just three reserves.
Farrell saw 253 minutes of playing time this season.
Northwestern beat Maryland, 2-1, in the other semifinal, then lost to North Carolina, 2-1, in the final.
