FIELD HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Defenses dominate the day

Ava Klopp scored midway through the fourth quarter Wednesday to lift Lake-Lehman over Delaware Valley, 2-1, for its third straight Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 field hockey victory.

Sarah Keebles assisted the game-winner.

Lake-Lehman’s Callie Dieffenbacher scored the only goal of the first half.

Mackenzie Olsommer scored for Delaware Valley in the third quarter to tie the game.

Lake-Lehman’s win was one of five one-goal games in the WVC along with Dallas and Holy Redeemer playing to a scoreless tie through overtime.

The other close Division 1 games were: Crestwood over Lackawanna Trail, 3-2; Honesdale over Hazleton Area, 1-0; and Wyoming Valley West over Wilkes-Barre Area, 1-0.

Honesdale’s victory came in a rematch of last season’s District 2 Class 3A title game that Honesdale also won.

Nanticoke defeated Pittston Area, 2-1, in WVC Division 2.
