Four of the top five teams in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Wrestling Power Rankings of District 2 teams clinched at least ties for first place in their divisions during the past week.
With the top teams continuing successful seasons, there is minimal movement in this week’s rankings, which were released Friday afternoon.
Hazleton Area moved up one position to fourth and Wyoming Area dropped one to fifth.
Both teams, along with top-ranked Lackawanna Trail and second-ranked Abington Heights, have assured themselves of no worse than a tie for first place in the final standings.
Lackawanna Trail maintained its perfect record with a 72-0 rout of Mountain View and clinched its tie in Lackawanna League Division 2 where it is also the defending champion.
Abington Heights won three times, most importantly a 30-25, road victory over defending champion Delaware Valley Wednesday night, in a match that came down to the final about, to clinch at least a tie in Lackawanna Division 1.
Delaware Valley held on to third, despite the loss, going 4-2 in a week that included strong competition from District 1 and 11 teams.
Hazleton Area clinched its Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 tie and moved up in the rankings despite being idle. The Cougars clinched when Tunkhannock suffered its first divisional loss.
Wyoming Area dropped after defeating Hanover Area, 71-6, to clinch the tie in WVC Division 2, but losing to Tunkhannock in a non-league match.
Honesdale, Wyoming Valley West and Western Wayne round out the rankings.
Honesdale went 4-0, Wyoming Valley West went 3-0 and Western Wayne won its only match.
The eight ranked teams were a combined 17-3 on the week, including 15-1 when not going against each other.
