Emily Franklin won the individual girls title while leading North Pocono to the team championship Saturday afternoon in the 28th annual Lackawanna County Commissioners’ Invitational at McDade Park in Scranton.
Brian McCormack’s individual victory, however, was not enough for the Scranton boys to overcome a strong team effort by Valley View.
Valley View, led by runner-up Ethan Williams, won the team title by three points over Lackawanna League unbeaten Scranton, 68-71.
North Pocono finished third in the boys team standings.
McCormack won in 16:28.1.
North Pocono beat out Valley View, 47-52, for first place among the six girls teams entered.
Franklin was the only girl to break the 20-minute mark, winning in 19:28.1 to break 2021 champion Kate Korty from Forest City by 40 seconds.
The meet drew a field of 10 varsity boys teams plus runners from two other schools. There were six full girls teams entered plus runners from five other schools.
