MIA GALELLA, Holy Cross sophomore first baseman

Time period: April 24-30

Game One: Galella went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored April 24 in an 11-10, Lackawanna League Division 2 victory over crosstown rival Dunmore.

Game Two: Galella was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in a 12-3 win over Lakeland April 26 in another Lackawanna Division 2 game.

Season batting: Including Monday’s 9-0 shutout of Riverside (after the time period of this honor), Galella has three home runs in the last three games. She is batting .517 with 6 homers, 3 doubles, a triple, 22 RBI and 17 runs in 12 games.

About Mia: Galella made an immediate impact as a freshman, driving in two runs per game over a season that ended in the District 2 Class 2A championship game. Galella finished strong, blasting 3 homers and driving in 15 runs in the final 6 games. In 19 games, she had 9 homers, 38 RBI and a .544 average.

About the Lady Crusaders: Holy Cross is 7-2 for second out of eight teams in Lackawanna Division 3. … Monday’s win over Riverside avenged a 10-4 loss early in the season and was the team’s fourth straight during divisional play. … With three straight wins overall, the Lady Crusaders are 8-4 and second out of seven teams in the seeding race for the District 2 Class 2A playoffs. … With Galella scoring four runs and driving in three, Holy Cross rallied from nine runs down in last year’s District 2 Class 2A final before falling, 13-12, to Elk Lake to complete a 15-5 season.
