Even though she is clearly Wyoming Area’s number-one scoring option, Morgan Janeski often looks to share the ball first.
And, when her scoring brought Janeski to a career milestone Monday night, she went out of her way to share in the credit as well.
“I just want to thank anybody that’s ever coached me, come to floor to practice with me or passed me the ball at any point,” Janeski said after surpassing 1,000 points during Wyoming Area’s 48-9, Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 rout of Hanover Area.
In a postgame telephone interview, Janeski remembered that it took a screen and pass to get her in position to score from the low block 1:11 into the game.
After the team rushed the floor to celebrate, coach Mark Casper gave Janeski a break before putting her back in to complete a 14-point, 9-rebound effort in the win.
Casper praised Janeski’s all-around play that includes everything from organizing the team’s defense to rebounding and occasionally passing more than the first-year head coach would like. Casper said he, at times, reminds Janeski to more aggressively go after her own points.
“We need her to score and actually, she’s great at drawing fouls, too,” he said. “There’s games when she has shot quite a few foul shots.”
Janeski was among eight Wyoming Area players celebrating Senior Night.
The Lady Warriors opened a 29-0 lead with the first five points of the second quarter.
Halle Kranson added nine points while Olivia Rome and Jocelyn Williams had eight each. All are seniors.
Hannah Salwoski led Hanover Area with six points.
