GIRLS ROUNDUP: Lake-Lehman pulls out victory over rival Dallas

Molly Jenkins banked in a 5-footer from the lane with about eight seconds remaining Monday night to lift visiting Lake-Lehman to a 47-45, non-league girls basketball victory over Back Mountain rival Dallas.

Dallas had worked the ball into the lane to tie the game with 20 seconds left.

Lake-Lehman advanced the ball into the frontcourt and called timeout with 14.8 seconds left.

The first attempt at the game-winner bounced off the rim, but Jenkins controlled the rebound in the middle of the lane and put up the winning shot.

Hailey Kline led Lake-Lehman with 24 points.

Dallas got 21 points from Molly Walsh and 13 from Victoria Spaciano.

The Lady Mountaineers led 15-11 after one quarter and 25-18 at halftime.

Kline then scored 12 points in the third quarter to help Lake-Lehman outscore Dallas, 22-10, and take a five-point lead into the fourth quarter.

In other Monday non-league girls basketball games:

Carbondale 53, Susquehanna 43

Carbondale had won just twice in its previous 50 games before breaking a 24-game losing streak in the game at Susquehanna.

Sadie Gardus led the way with 24 points.

Gardus had 10 points, with the help of two 3-pointers, during a 21-8 second quarter to erase an early deficit and take a 32-21 halftime lead.

Lexi Iveson scored 14 points and Kerstin Dooley grabbed 14 rebounds for Susquehanna.

The Chargerettes (1-3) went 0-19 last season.

Wyoming Valley West 62, Valley View 40

Thalia Irizarry scored 18 points and Haylie Oliphant made four 3-pointers as Wyoming Valley West built its lead to the Mercy Rule level after three quarters.

The Lady Spartans led 18-12 after one quarter, then used a dozen points each from Irizarry and Oliphant in the middle quarters to make it 56-25 going into the fourth quarter.

Irizarry had six points and Gabby Marsola added five of her nine in the first quarter. Irizarry had 13 by halftime for a 39-18 lead.

Oliphant, who finished with 14 points, hit two of her 3-pointers each in the second and third quarters.

Giada Costa led Valley View with seven points.

Scranton Prep 53, Nanticoke 40

Maya Jenkins drilled five 3-pointers and scored 21 points while helping Scranton Prep withstand a challenge from host Nanticoke to remain unbeaten.

Jenkins had two 3-pointers and Claire McGrath added one for 13-4 lead after one quarter.

Nanticoke outscored Scranton Prep over the second and third quarters combined to remain within 34-27 going to the fourth quarter.

Jenkins made another 3-pointer in the second quarter and two more in the third.

Gianna Cafarella hit two 3-pointers and went 4-for-6 from the line while scoring all 10 of her points in the second half.

Claire Aufiero, who scored a team-high 15 points, and Navaeh Baran, who added 11, each made three 3-pointers for the Trojanettes.

Wyoming Seminary 53, Mid Valley 26

Maddie Olshemski got to the foul line in the first quarter and stepped behind the 3-point line in the second half to lead host Wyoming Seminary with 21 points.

Olshemski went 4-for-4 from the line while scoring 10 points in the first quarter with the help of a pair of three-point plays and a two-shot foul. She helped the Blue Knights to a 19-10 lead after eight minutes.

Olshemski then hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter and another in the fourth.

Mid Valley was led by Grace Goetz with 10 points.

Wyoming Area 51, Mountain View 31

Wyoming Area used a 19-1, second-half run to defeat visiting Mountain View.

The Lady Eagles had scored the first seven points of the third quarter to take a 21-20 lead two minutes into the second quarter.

Wyoming Area then outscored Mountain View, 9-1, over the remainder of the quarter and 10-0 to start the fourth quarter, opening a 39-22 lead with five minutes left.

Jocelyn Williams and Morgan Janeski scored 11 points each and Olivia Rome added 10 for the Lady Warriors.

Addison Kilmer led Mountain View with 11 points.

Tunkhannock 51, Lackawanna Trail 35

Maci Iddings started and finished strong to lead Tunkhannock to the road victory.

Iddings had seven points in a 14-8 first quarter, then added six more when the Lady Tigers used a 16-7, fourth-quarter advantage to break away.

Anna Williams added 13 points and Erin Van Ness had 12.

Mackenzie Schirg led Lackawanna Trail with eight points.

Dunmore 47, Honesdale 20

Sophia Talutto finished with 19 points and Dunmore limited visiting Honesdale to four points while breaking the game open in the second half.

Talutto had 10 points during the third quarter when the Lady Bucks stretched a 19-16 halftime lead to 40-20.

Dunmore then held Honesdale scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Jaclyn Brown added eight points in the win.

Wilkes-Barre Area 55, Selinsgrove 23

Emma Krawczeniuk and Eternity Aiken led Wilkes-Barre Area with 11 points each.

The Wolfpack shut out the Seals, 12-0, in the first quarter. After an evenly played second quarter, Wilkes-Barre Area outscored Selinsgrove, 31-11, in the second half.

Holy Cross 40, West Scranton 32

Defending District 2 Class 2A champion Holy Cross won for the first time in five games this season with the victory at West Scranton.

Lakeland 45, Blue Ridge 24

Lakeland opened a 30-6 halftime lead at Blue Ridge.

Old Forge 48, Forest City 28

Old Forge matched last year’s win total with the road win.

Schuylkill Haven 48, MMI Prep 18

MMI Prep remained winless since early in the 2019-20 season with the road loss.
