Montrose and Dunmore each used hat tricks to roll to comfortable victories in Division 2-3 crossover games to open their Lackawanna League girls soccer schedules.
Tangi Smith had the three goals for defending District 2 Class A champion Montrose in an 8-1 romp at rival Elk Lake, the defending Lackawanna Division 3 champion.
Kaylie Zimmer led Dunmore to a 4-0 shutout of visiting West Scranton.
In other Division 2-3 openers: Western Wayne edged Mid Valley, 1-0; Holy Cross defeated Carbondale, 7-1; and Mountain View downed Forest City, 10-1.
Amanda Gravine scored the goal from Western Wayne, which relied on senior defenders Alex Butler, Allie Bien-Aime and Kennedy Mistishin in the shutout.
Defending Lackawanna Division 2 champion Lakeland had the bye, but played a non-league game and defeated North Pocono, 3-1.
Abby Davis scored two of the Lakeland goals.
In other non-league games: Delaware Valley blanked Pocono Mountain East, 5-0; Berwick defeated Lake-Lehman 2-1; Crestwood shut out Nanticoke, 7-0; Pittston Area routed Hanover Area, 9-0; Holy Redeemer topped Wilkes-Barre Area, 2-0; and Wyoming Seminary shut out Tamaqua, 1-0.
Sage Henry scored twice for Delaware Valley.
Berwick started the scoring with an own goal, then Kayla Fernandez gave the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0, first-half lead in the game between defending District 2 champions.
Marissa Brdaric pulled Lake-Lehman, last season’s Class 2A champion, to within a goal at halftime.
Berwick won the Class 3A title last year.
Holy Redeemer remained unscored on through three games by getting through its first challenge.
Cassidy Rhodes-Aniska scored for Wyoming Seminary.
