GIRLS TOURNAMENTS: Road tough on district teams in openers

Central Columbia went on an extended run from late in the first quarter through early in the third quarter Friday night when the hosts spoiled Mark Casper’s head coaching debut for Wyoming Area with a 56-37 victory in the opener of the Lady Jas Tip-Off Classic.

The Lady Jays outscored the Lady Warriors 21-2 in the extended run. That includes an 18-2 second quarter to break a tie and take a 33-17 halftime lead.

Emmie Rowe scored 18 points and Caitlyn Weatherill added 16 for Central Columbia.

Morgan Janeski had 19 points for Wyoming Area.

Jocelyn Williams added nine points, all in the first quarter.

Wallenpaupack 46, Stroudsburg 21

Ella Smith scored 19 points to lead Wallenpaupack to the home-court victory in the first round of the Lake Region Tip-Off Tournament.

Grace Steffen added 10 points in the win.

East Stroudsburg North 55, Carbondale 47

East Stroudsburg North won the afternoon game, the first sporting event involving a District 2 team this winter, to open the Lake Region Tip-Off Tournament at Wallenpaupack.

Bloomsburg 62, Holy Redeemer 40

Holy Redeemer lost in the first round of the Angela Wolfe Tournament at Selinsgrove.

State College 49, Western Wayne 37

Host State College broke open what was a three-point game at halftime to reach the final of the Skip Coleman Tip-Off Tournament.
