The Hanover Area girls became the first team to opt out of the District 2 basketball playoffs Thursday.
Schools have until Tuesday to inform the District 2 committee if they choose not to take part in the playoffs.
Hanover Area was 1-18 at the time of the decision. The Lady Hawkeyes then added a victory over winless MMI Prep Thursday night.
If Hanover Area had participated, it would have been the seventh seed in a seven-team District 2 Class 4A tournament. The tournament will proceed with a six-team bracket.
Scranton Prep will receive a bye as the top team in the field. Hanover Area’s decision will mean a bye is also available for the second seed, which will be either Valley View or Wyoming Area.
