Two teams that won both league and district titles in the abbreviated 2021 season open the 2021-22 season as the top-ranked teams in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Swimming Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Hazleton Area boys and Scranton Prep girls begin in the No. 1 spots in the rankings, which were released by NEPASportsNation.com Wednesday afternoon.
The Wyoming Seminary girls, who finished second in the state in Class 2A in March after placing third in District 2, are ranked second.
Hazleton Area won the Wyoming Valley Conference and District 2 Class 3A boys championships.
The Cougars are followed by Wyoming Seminary, Delaware Valley, Dallas, Scranton Prep and Holy Redeemer.
Wyoming Seminary was second to Hazleton Area in the WVC and second in District 2 Class 2A last season.
Delaware Valley was the unbeaten champion of the Lackawanna League and was a distant second to Hazleton Area in Class 3A.
District 2 Class 2A champion Dallas placed third in the WVC.
Scranton Prep was second in the Lackawanna League and third in Class 2A.
Holy Redeemer was fourth in both the WVC and Class 2A.
Scranton Prep and Wyoming Seminary, both unbeaten conference champions, are 1-2 in girls. Scranton Prep also won the district Class 2A title.
The Classics and Blue Knights are followed by Dallas, Valley View, Delaware Valley and Tunkhannock.
Dallas was second in both the WVC and Class 2A.
Valley View was second in the Lackawanna League and fifth in Class 2A when all 141 of its district points were scored by underclassmen.
Delaware Valley won the district Class 3A championship after placing third in the Lackawanna League.
Tunkhannock was third in the WVC and second in Class 3A.
The swimming season is scheduled to begin Friday. Rankings will be updated for the first time Dec. 20 and then will be updated each Tuesday throughout the remainder of the season.
