District 2’s only two unbeaten teams overall, Hazleton Area and Riverside, hold down the top spots in the first Riverfront Sports Super Six Baseball Power Ratings of district teams.
Hazleton Area (12-0 overall) leads Division 1 of the Wyoming Valley Conference with a 6-0 record and also leads the ratings race for the top seed in the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional.
The Cougars are first in the Big School rankings, which are for teams in Class 6A, 5A and 4A.
Riverside is 7-0 and 10-0 to lead Lackawanna League Division 3 and the District 2 Class 2A seeding race.
The Vikings lead the Small School rankings for Class 3A, 2A and A.
Hazleton Area is followed by the top two teams in Lackawanna Division 2, North Pocono and Wallenpaupack, in the second and third spots.
North Pocono is 9-2 with its only loss within the district coming against Hazleton Area. The Trojans lead both Lackawanna Division 2 and District 2 Class 5A.
Wallenpaupack, also 9-2, has only lost to the top two teams.
Lackawanna Division 1 leader Abington Heights is fourth and District 2 Class 4A ratings leader Dallas is fifth. Abington Heights has won five straight while Dallas is on a six-game winning streak.
West Scranton is sixth.
WVC Division 2 co-leaders Holy Redeemer and Lake-Lehman are second and third among Small Schools.
The No. 2 Royals (8-1) lead District 2 Class 3A despite suffering their only loss to the No. 3 Black Knights (7-1).
Nanticoke is fourth. The Trojans (7-3) have lost only to the two teams above them and No. 2 Big School North Pocono.
Lakeland and Wyoming Seminary, which handed Lake-Lehman its only loss, are fifth and sixth.
The first rankings have been posted previously on boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, boys tennis, boys volleyball, boys track and field, girls track and field. The last of the daily rollout of the first rankings will be Wednesday for softball. Then, the rankings for each sport will be updated weekly.
