North Penn from Lansdale brought a quick end to the latest Hazleton Area appearance in the state baseball tournament.
After scoring four runs in the top of the first, North Penn defeated host Hazleton Area, 10-0, in five innings in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 6A first-round game June 5.
North Penn added three runs in the second, two in the third and another in the fifth to put the game away on the 10-run rule.
Hazleton Area, which advanced to the state semifinals a year ago, won Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 and District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional titles this season.
Nick Ledger doubled for the Cougars’ only extra-base hit in the season finale.
Grant Russo, Brent Antolick and Chris Florentino singled for the team’s other hits.
