Holy Cross, West rejoin rankings

Holy Cross and West Scranton used recent winning streaks and climbs in their respective Lackawanna League division standings to rejoin the Riverfront Sports Super Six Softball Power Rankings of District 2 teams when they were posted early Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Crusaders moved into the Small School rankings jumping all the way to fourth. They defeated Lakeland, 12-3, and Riverside, 9-0.

The win over Riverside avenged an early-season defeat and helped Holy Cross move into second place in Lackawanna Division 2. The Lady Crusaders have won three straight.

West Scranton also avenged a loss when it defeated Wallenpaupack, 8-7. The Lady Invaders, who climbed to fifth among Big Schools, also defeated Delaware Valley, 8-1, to push their winning streak to five.

The Lady Invaders moved into sole possession of fourth place out of eight teams in Lackawanna Division 1.

Tunkhannock and Mid Valley remained in the No. 1 spots.

The Lady Tigers will put that Big School No. 1 ranking on the line Wednesday afternoon at Pittston Area in a meeting of 2022 state finalists. Tunkhannock has won its last five games by 10 or more runs each and a total of 68-2.

Valley View, which joins Tunkhannock as the district’s only unbeatens, remains second behind Tunkhannock.

Pittston Area, which suffered its only loss of the last two seasons by one run at Tunkhannock earlier this season, is third going into the rematch with the Lady Tigers.

North Pocono remained in fourth after it lost to Valley View.

Hazleton Area dropped from fifth to sixth following a 12-0 loss to Tunkhannock.

Abington Heights slipped to .500 with two losses in New York State and fell out of the rankings.

Mid Valley, Elk Lake and Lake-Lehman remain 1-2-3 among Small Schools. Lake-Lehman lost, 3-0, in non-league play to Big School No. 3 Pittston Area.

Holy Cross is followed by Holy Redeemer and Old Forge, which each lost a game and fell a spot into fifth and sixth.

Riverside dropped out.
