Lily Murray scored on a penalty corner with no time on the clock Tuesday night, completing a comeback and lifting Honesdale to its first state field hockey win in school history, 5-4 over Spring-Ford in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A first-round game at Wallenpaupack.
Teams are allowed to continue penalty corners to completion with no time remaining at the end of each quarter.
Murray made the most of that rule with her second goal of the game.
Honesdale trailed, 3-1, early in the second half, but rallied to tie twice.
Alyssa Czekai also had two goals for the Lady Hornets, including the late score for a 4-4 tie.
Honesdale (17-3) advances to Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. state quarterfinal at East Stroudsburg South against District 11’s Emmaus, the two-time defending state champion with a 24-0 record.
