Hornets win twice, climb to fifth

Honesdale moved up one spot into fifth place, swapping positions with Hazleton Area in the only change in the latest Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The teams completed dual meet competition since the last ratings were posted Feb. 10 and will be ranked one more time following the district individual championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Lackawanna Trail suffered its first two losses during the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Dual Meet Championships, but held on to the top ranking by a slim margin over Abington Heights.

Abington Heights finished tied for seventh in the state in Class 3A and added two more wins in a tri-meet, going 4-2 since the last rankings.

Lackawanna Trail was 1-2 in the state tournament to finish tied for ninth in Class 2A.

Delaware Valley and Wyoming Area were idle and remained in third and fourth.

Honesdale defeated West Scranton, 44-15, and Wilkes-Barre Area, 74-0, to move past idle Hazleton Area. The Hornets are 19-2 since the opening weekend with the only two losses coming to Lackawanna Trail.

Wyoming Valley West went 2-1 and Wallenpaupack won all three of its matches to remain seventh and eighth.
