Honesdale edged Crestwood for the District 2 Class 2A championship and jumped over the Comets into second among boys in the latest Century Dental Associates Cross Country Power Rankings of District 2 teams
Both Abington Heights teams maintained their No. 1 positions heading into Saturday’s Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships in Hershey.
The Lake-Lehman and Scranton Prep boys, as well as the Wallenpaupack, North Pocono and Delaware Valley girls, also moved up with their district performances. The North Pocono and Holy Cross boys, along with the Valley View and Lakeland girls joined the rankings after Wednesday’s district meet at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds.
Class 3A runner-up Scranton is fourth in boys, behind Crestwood.
Lake-Lehman moved into fifth with a fourth-place finish in Class 2A, trading places with Wyoming Valley Conference co-champion Holy Redeemer, which dropped to sixth.
Berwick, Class A champion Elk Lake and Valley View heled the next three spots.
Scranton Prep used a third-place finish in Class 2A to be the only boys team to jump two spots, moving into 10th.
North Pocono and Class A runner-up Holy Cross round out the rankings.
Pittston Area, which was sixth in Class 3A, and Dallas, which was ninth in Class 2A, dropped out.
The top seven girls teams remained the same.
Abington Heights is followed by WVC champion Dallas, district Class 2A champion Crestwood, Class A champion Montrose, Scranton, Honesdale and Lake-Lehman.
Wallenpaupack and North Pocono moved up into eighth and ninth.
Delaware Valley, the Class 3A runner-up, was the only girls team to move up two spots, taking over 10th.
Valley View and Lakeland moved into the 11th and 12th spots. Lakeland earned the district’s second state berth in Class A.
Holy Redeemer and Wyoming Area dropped out after placing eighth and ninth in Class 2A.
