Juniata Valley managed five runs off just two hits in the fourth inning Thursday to defeat MMI Prep, 6-2, in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A state baseball quarterfinal at Newport.
The loss ended the season in which the Preppers (13-9) posted the first state tournament win in school history after winning the District 2 championship.
Marcus Danchision had two hits, including one that drove in both MMI Prep runs after Juniata Valley had opened a 6-0 lead.
MMI Prep tried to bounce right back from the big inning by Juniata Valley.
The first four Preppers reached in the top of the fifth, but after Danchision’s two-run single, the team was unable to produce any more runs.
Three Juniata Valley pitchers combined on a five-hitter.
