Jacque Kakareka scored the tying and winning goals in the second half Tuesday to rally Holy Cross past East Juniata, 2-1, for a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A boys soccer first-round playoff victory in a game at Midd-West High School in Middleburg.
East Juniata scored the only goal of the first half for a 1-0 lead.
Josh Mease made seven saves for Holy Cross and Ron Prislupski assisted one of the Kakareka goals.
Holy Cross, the District 2 champion, advances to play District 11 champion Moravian Academy in Saturday’s state quarterfinals at North Schuylkill at 1 p.m.
The Crusaders, the only District 2 boys soccer team still active in the state playoffs, are 16-1-2. Moravian Academy is 15-4 after advancing in penalty kicks in its first-round game with Christopher Dock Mennonite.
