Nico Killino scored three touchdowns and Casey Holzman contributed in all three phases of the game Friday night as Old Forge routed visiting Nanticoke, 42-7, in a non-league football game.
Killino and Holzman combined to break the game open early in the fourth quarter.
Holzman returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown, then Killino returned a fumble 22 yards for a score 18 seconds later, turning a 14-0 lead into a 28-0 romp with 10:46 still remaining in the first half.
Old Forge bounced back from an opening loss to Dunmore in which it gave up 43 points, by coming within eight minutes of a shutout.
Holzman had eight tackles, including two for losses, and forced two fumbles. He led a defense that limited Nanticoke to 111 yards total offense a week after it rushed for more than 400 yards in a 36-0 shutout of Carbondale.
Killino and Holzman also worked with quarterback James Sobol to keep the Old Forge offense moving.
Sobol finished 13-for-19 for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Holzman caught 6 passes for 59 yards. Killino turned both his catches into first-half touchdowns.
Josh Spindler opened the scoring on Old Forge’s first possession, running 3 yards to cap an 11-play, 65-yard drive for a 7-0 lead with 6:25 left in the quarter.
Sobol hit Killino for 33 yards and a 14-0 lead after one quarter then for 48 yards and a 35-0 halftime lead.
Cael Krushnowski ran 23 yards for an Old Forge touchdown early in the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to 42.
Nanticoke’s Zach Fox broke up the shutout on a 5-yard run with 7:31 remaining.
