SCRANTON – Dunmore’s 58-19 rout of Lake-Lehman Friday brought the Lady Bucks to within two wins of the one missing piece on the program’s resume – a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state title.
The Lady Bucks have won everything else and have done so consistently.
The 75th state playoff game in program history produced the 45th state win by the Lady Bucks.
Dunmore has appeared in 32 of the 51 PIAA state tournaments and 50 for which the school has been available. The Lady Bucks could not play in the 2021 postseason because of a COVID outbreak.
The Lady Bucks have won at least two district and one state game in each of the last 16 years that they competed.
Dunmore had an 11-16 state record from its first appearance in 1978 through 2006. The Lady Bucks are 35-14 since.
In 2020, Dunmore was one of eight teams still in title contention when the tournament could not be completed because of COVID.
A win Monday night against Lancaster Catholic would send Dunmore to its fourth state final.
The Lady Bucks lost 44-43 to Cranberry in Class 2A in 1994; 62-39 to Villa Maria in Class 2A in 2011; and 49-43 to Delone Catholic in Class 3A in 2019.
Dunmore is 3-3 all-time in state semifinals with losses to Neumann-Goretti in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
