The Lake-Lehman boys used an impressive sweep of a large and competitive group of Wyoming Valley Conference opponents to not only rejoin the Century Dental Associates Cross Country Power Rankings of District 2 teams, but climb over seven schools in the process into the No. 6 spot.
Competing among the same group of schools on the girls side, Wyoming Area rejoined those rankings, moving all the way up to eighth.
The Abington Heights boys and Crestwood girls continue to lead their respective rankings.
The largest week of Lackawanna League competition – with all cluster partners scored against each other – and the Dallas/Lake-Lehman/Tunkhannock combination making up its WVC meet as it was running its regularly scheduled meet allowed for many opportunities for top teams to test each other. That also made for considerable movement in the latest rankings, which were released early Saturday morning.
Crestwood and Holy Cross moved up in the boys rankings while Lake-Lehman, Elk Lake and Scranton Prep all moved in.
Abington Heights and Scranton moved up in the girls rankings while Wyoming Area and Scranton Prep moved in.
The top four teams remained the same in the boys rankings where Abington Heights is followed by Scranton, Honesdale and Holy Redeemer.
Abington Heights is the last Lackawanna League unbeaten after handing No. 2 Scranton a one-point defeat.
Holy Redeemer is the last unbeaten in the Wyoming Valley Conference.
Crestwood gained one spot to fifth during its week off.
Lake-Lehman (9-1) moved a half-meet in front of Crestwood for second place in the WVC standings and took over sixth in the rankings after winning all six of its WVC duals from a meet it hosted at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds. The Black Knights, 2021 WVC co-champions with Crestwood, defeated Pittston Area and Dallas to pass both in the rankings, dropping them to seventh and eighth.
Holy Cross gained one spot to ninth despite a loss in one of its five meets.
Valley View won the Lackawanna County Commissioners’ Invitational, but lost its duals to the top two teams and slipped one spot to 10th.
Elk Lake had a 5-0 week, including beating a former ranked team in Montrose, and moved into the 11th spot.
Scranton Prep also went 5-0, including beating Holy Cross, and came back into the rankings in 12th.
North Pocono, Berwick and Montrose dropped out of the boys rankings.
Crestwood held the top spot in girls, followed by the other three unbeatens.
Abington Heights bypasses Lackawanna League rival Montrose into second based on more dominant victories in races against common opponents.
Dallas had a 6-0 week, including beating ranked opponents Lake-Lehman and Wyoming Area, to hold fourth.
Honesdale and Wallenpaupack remained in fifth and sixth. Honesdale had a 5-0 week and handed Wallenpaupack its only loss of the meet and just second of the season.
Scranton gained one spot into seventh after going 4-1, losing only to Abington Heights.
Wyoming Area took over eighth when it went 2-1, edging Lake-Lehman by a point and losing only to unbeaten Dallas.
Lake-Lehman and Holy Redeemer remained ninth and 10th.
Delaware Valley fell to 11th
Scranton Prep swept five meets to move into 12th.
North Pocono and Valley View fell from the rankings.
