Lake-Lehman claims No. 1 position

Three teams, led by new Small School No. 1 Lake-Lehman, used district championships to climb in this week’s Riverfront Sports Super Six Baseball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The new rankings were released Sunday morning.

Lake-Lehman won the District 2 Class 3A championship.

Wyoming Area moved up to No. 2 among Big Schools and Holy Cross joined the Small School rankings after winning district titles in Class 4A and 2A respectively.

Wallenpaupack also moved up this week.

Hazleton Area won the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional title and remains the top team among Big Schools. Also the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 champions, the Cougars take a 20-game winning streak into the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament.

Wyoming Area moved from third to second, trading places with Dallas, the team it defeated in the District 2 Class 4A final.

Wallenpaupack returns to the fourth spot, switching with North Pocono. The Buckhorns won two of three meetings with the Trojans this season on the way to the Lackawanna League Division 2 title.

North Pocono won the District 2 Class 5A title, but fell short in the District 2-4 Class 5A subregional final, therefore missing the state tournament.

Pittston Area remains in sixth.

Lake-Lehman moved up from second to first among Small Schools. The Black Knights are also WVC Division 1 champs.

Riverside dropped from first to second after having its season end with a loss in the District 2 Class 2A final.

Scranton Prep, which qualified for the state tournament with a second-place district finish in Class 3A, remains third. Nanticoke, the team it beat in the semifinals, held fourth.

Holy Cross joins the rankings in fifth after upsetting Riverside in the district final to run its winning streak to four games.

Old Forge dropped from fifth to sixth and Lakeland fell out of the rankings to make room for Holy Cross. The Blue Devils and Chiefs had already completed their seasons.
