Dominico Spataro put up his usual impressive numbers, but West Scranton made him work for them.
Spataro accounted for 302 yards and 5 touchdowns Oct. 14 as Lakeland remained unbeaten with a 42-12, Lackawanna Football Conference Division 2 road victory.
While dropping their seventh straight game, the Invaders gave the Chiefs their toughest test of the season.
Lakeland led just 7-6 after one quarter and 14-6 at halftime. The Chiefs expanded the lead to 28-6 with a pair of third-quarter scores on the way to reaching 3-0 in the division going into Friday’s first-place battle at home with Western Wayne.
Spataro hit 22 of 39 passes for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns while running 15 times for 79 yards and 2 more scores.
Lacota Dippre caught 11 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Jon Seamans had 5 catches for 69 yards while Riley Rovinsky and Evan Pochas pulled in the other touchdown passes.
The reception was one of two scores for Pochas, who produced another while running for 114 yards on 21 carries.
While unable to break away as quickly as in its other games this season, Lakeland did have a 22-4 advantage in first downs.
West Scranton got a pair of long touchdown receptions by Evan Laybourn-Boddie on passes from Caiden Berardi.
Otherwise, the Chiefs defense contained the Invaders.
Adam Wormuth had three tackles for losses and Luke Smurl added two. Seamans had an interception while Jon Clauss-Walton forced a fumble that Pochas recovered.
