Kya Matter struck out 14 and led the offense Monday when Line Mountain posted the first state tournament win in program history by shutting out Elk Lake, 6-0, in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A first-round game at Tunkhannock.
Matter held the Lady Warriors to five hits, three of them on bunts. She did not walk a batter.
At the plate, Matter was 3-for-3 with a triple. Matter, who is committed to play on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, scored two runs and drove in two.
District 4 champion Line Mountain took an early lead. The Eagles (20-3) scored two runs each in the first, second and fourth innings.
Elk Lake, the Lackawanna League Division 4 and District 2 Class 2A champion, finished 17-2.
Jenna Newhart went 2-for-3 to lead the Lady Warriors.
