Garet Fowler and Ethan Lee rallied Lackawanna Trail in the last two bouts Wednesday night, lifting the Lions over host Honesdale, 30-27, in a match that decided the Lackawanna League Division 2 championship and kept two streaks alive for the Lions.
Lackawanna Trail, the No. 3 team in the Riverfront Sports Elite Eight Wrestling Power Rankings of District 2 teams, has now won four straight titles and 25 straight matches in Lackawanna Division 2.
The Lions, who finished 4-0 in the division, improved to 8-1 overall. They have not lost in the division since falling at Blue Ridge, 42-37, Jan. 18, 2019.
Lackawanna Trail was first out of seven teams in a two-division setup in 2019-20, won an eight-team division the next two seasons, then won the five-team group this season in a new three-division alignment.
No. 4 Honesdale is again second to the Lions. The Hornets are 2-1 and 8-4.
After Lackawanna Trail built a 24-6 lead through 285 pounds in the match, which started at 145, Honesdale won four straight lightweight bouts to take a 27-24 lead.
The Hornets picked up forfeits at 107 and 114, then got a technical fall from Josh Young and a major decision from Charles Moran at 121 and 127.
Fowler decisioned Braden McLaughlin, 11-4, at 133 to tie the match at 27-27.
Lackawanna Trail won 8 of the 13 bouts, but still needed the last bout to pull out the win.
Lee beat T.J. Martin, 8-3, at 139 pounds.
Honesdale made it close by getting 27 of a possible 30 points out of its five bout wins.
Joey Giannetti got the Hornets started with a pin at 145.
Max Bluhm, Deegan Ross, Robbie Schneider, Seth Ross, Beau Ware and Jonah Houser rattled off six straight wins for the Lions from 152 through 285.
Ware won in a first-period pin, Schneider by technical fall early in the third and Deegan Ross by major decision.
The Lions benefitted from winning the closest bout of the night, a 1-0 decision by Seth Ross over Paul Renner at 189.
