Erin McGee threw a shutout and Holy Cross extended its winning streak to five games with Wednesday’s 6-0 victory over visiting Lakeland in a District 2 Class 2A softball semifinal.
The win advances second-seeded Holy Cross into the Tuesday district final against the winner between top-seeded Elk Lake and Northwest. That game was postponed from Wednesday to Thursday because of the rain that also caused a delay in the game at Holy Cross.
The Lady Crusaders (13-5) had scored in double figures in each of the first four games of their current winning streak in which they have outscored opponents 59-5.
They did not match those recent offensive totals, but Kaci Kranson led off the bottom of the first with a home run that was enough for McGee and Holy Cross gradually expanded its lead.
