Time period: May 22-28

Game One: McVicar went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored when Valley View opened the District 2 Class 4A playoffs with a 10-0, five-inning victory over visiting Scranton Prep in the quarterfinals.

Game Two: McVicar drove in three runs in a 6-5 semifinal victory over visiting North Pocono by going 1-for-2 with a sacrifice and a sacrifice fly.

Season statistics: Including Wednesday’s 8-1 district championship game victory over Tunkhannock (which came after the week for which she was honored), McVicar is batting .437 with 30 runs and 28 RBI. She has seven doubles, a triple and three homers. McVicar also has five sacrifices, four sacrifice flies and eight stolen bases.

About Morgan: McVicar, a three-year starter, hits second in the Valley View batting order. She has a .423 batting average and 68 runs scored in 63 career games.

About the Cougars: Valley View enters the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 4A state tournament with a 22-1 record. The Cougars are champions of Lackawanna League Division 1 and District 2 Class 4A. The romp over Tunkhannock avenged a loss in last year’s final and ended the two-year district title reign of a team that went on to the state championship game in each of those seasons.
