Montrose boys, Honesdale girls sweep Lackawanna League finale

Nate Sinkovich finished his home, 2.97-mile course in 16:47.2 Oct. 20 to lead Montrose to a sweep of its three boys meets in the final cross country cluster meet of the regular season.

The Meteors defeated Honesdale, 24-31; Delaware Valley, 16-44; and Wallenpaupack, 16-45, in the Lackawanna League meets to wind up tied for third in the 24-team league with a 20-3 record.

Honesdale defeated Montrose, 27-28, in the girls meet, forcing a tie for second place between the two teams with 21-2 records. Montrose’s only previous loss had been on a sixth-runner tiebreaker against undefeated league champion Abington Heights.

Sinkovich won by almost 20 seconds over Honesdale’s Aidan LaTourette.

Justice Johnson from Elk Lake, in third, and Luke Murray from Honesdale, in fourth, each finished within six seconds of LaTourette.

Blue Ridge placed Heath Bowker and Duncan Geyer fifth and sixth.

Montrose’s James Bixby, Logan Birchard and Nick Harder were seventh through ninth.

Honesdale’s J.P. Ahern rounded out the top 10.

Alec Crouthamel, in 11th, was Wallenpaupack’s first finisher while Griffen Kowal, in 13th, led Delaware Valley, placing one spot behind Elk Lake’s Dylan Way.

Honesdale and Blue Ridge were each 2-1 on the day. Delaware Valley and Wallenpaupack went 1-2, each getting wins over Elk Lake, which was 0-3.

Elk Lake’s Krista Jones won in 19:00.5, finishing 53.6 seconds ahead of the pack.

Daegan Giannone from Montrose was second, Brenna Dahlgren from Honesdale third and Paige Brewer from Montrose fourth.

The rest of the top 10 was: Morgan Anderson, Wallenpaupack, fifth; Megan Kretschmer, Honesdale, sixth; Stephanie Summerville, Montrose, seventh; Margaret Holderith, Delaware Valley, eighth; Kira Fox, Honesdale, ninth; and Elizabeth Higgins, Wallenpaupack, 10th.

Emma Piechocki led Blue Ridge, placing 11th.

In addition to its one-point win over Montrose, Honesdale defeated Elk Lake, 22-37, and Blue Ridge, 17-43.

Montrose beat Delaware Valley and Wallenpaupack to go 2-1 on the day. Wallenpaupack topped Elk Lake and Blue Ridge to also go 2-1. Elk Lake and Blue Ridge each went 1-2 with wins over Delaware Valley.
