Montrose falls in New York State

The Montrose football team came up short in the first of its three games this season against New York State opponents.

The Schuyler Storm piled up nearly 500 yards total offense, including almost 400 rushing, Friday night to defeat the visiting Meteors, 40-8.

Schuyler is a team formed by the combination of Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour High Schools. Montrose headed across the border to serve as the opponent for the Odessa-Montour Homecoming.

Bradley Gillis carried 12 times for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns while Ryan Willett ran 9 times for 109 yards and a score.

The Storm opened a 27-0 lead at halftime.

Montrose’s only score came in the third quarter, cutting the deficit at the time to 34-8.

The Meteors, playing an independent schedule this season after leaving the Lackawanna Football Conference, are 1-2. They play their home opener Friday against Whitney Point (N.Y.).
