Mountaineers, Comets land top doubles seeds

District 2 boys tennis team champions Dallas and Abington Heights landed the top seeds and each have a second team seeded for the doubles tournaments, which will begin Saturday.

Freshman Tucker Chesman, who reached the district singles final, and Dan Flynn are seeded first in Class 2A.

Dan Dudick and Lucas Carver, the second entry from the unbeaten Wyoming Valley Conference champions, are seeded third.

The Class 2A tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday at 9 a.m. and Kirby Park and proceed through three rounds.

Lackawanna League champion and District 2 runner-up Scranton Prep also has two of the top four seeds in Class 2A.

Matt Tressler and Ethan Borick are seeded second while James Cawley and Will Aldrich are seeded fourth.

Abington Heights has the first and sixth seeds in Class 3A, which will play at North Pocono Middle School, also with a 9 a.m. start.

Sam Weis-Sam Christman is the first-seeded team and Adam Vale-Ryan Salony is sixth.

Michael Hamel, the Wilkes-Barre Area freshman who made the 3A singles final, is teamed with Stanley Shimko for the second seed in Class 3A.

There are eight seeded teams in the 26-team field in Class 2A and six seeded teams in the 20-team field in Class 3A.

The semifinals and finals are tentatively set for Monday at Kirby Park, beginning at 1 p.m.

Class 2A, No. 6 – Luke Kotcho-Liam Harrison, Valley View

Class 2A, No. 7 – David Day-Billy Portanova, Dunmore

Class 2A, No. 8 – William Wolfgang-Matthew Schuler, Holy Redeemer
