No. 1 will meet No. 2 in final true District 2 football game of season

The football season is down to six remaining teams from District 2 and just one game left between district opponents.

The last matchup of the season features the Big School No. 1 and No. 2 teams of the Gaughan Auto Store Super Six Power Rankings against each other when top-ranked Crestwood hosts Valley View Friday for the District 2 Class 4A title.

The season is ending on a high note with two games between second- and third-ranked teams in the next-to-last weekend the season.

Scranton Prep, the preseason Small School No. 1, used a win in one of those games to climb from third to second when the rankings were updated this week by our partners at NEPAFootball.com. The Cavaliers defeated Western Wayne, 28-14, for the District 2 Class 3A title.

Delaware Valley also gained ground this week, moving up from fourth to third among Big Schools after taking the District 2 Class 5A title with a 24-21 victory over Scranton.

Once-beaten Crestwood and unbeaten Lakeland each won to hold on to the No. 1 rankings and protect the best records in the district.

Crestwood ripped Berwick, 56-14, in a Class 4A semifinal.

Valley View downed Dallas, 31-14, in the other semifinal to hold second.

Delaware Valley used its district title to advance into state play at Whitehall.

Dallas dropped from third to fourth.

Lakeland won the District 2 Class 2A title, 20-14, over Dunmore to move into a Friday state game at Dunmore against Executive Education.

Scranton Prep will play Neumann-Goretti in a state Class 3A game Friday at Scranton Memorial Stadium.

Western Wayne and Dunmore, which held on to fourth, had their seasons end.
