SCRANTON – Susquehanna’s Tatum Norris and the Abington Heights team repeated event victories and added more.
The result was Norris winning four gold medals and the Comets rising to the top of the team standings a year after finishing second.
Norris, the defending state Class 2A champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, repeated as meet champion of those events while adding field event wins in the pole vault and long jump for the top individual performance in the Robert Spagna Lackawanna Track Conference Championship Meet.
Abington Heights used different athletes in some cases but won the same four events as a year ago, plus three more while racking up the day’s highest point total to run away from North Pocono, 134-71½, for the Class 3A girls title.
The Comets added the title to the two it already won this year, their 16th straight LTC Division 1 championship, and the Class 3A girls title in the Jordan Relays.
Norris scored enough points by herself to win a state Class 2A team championship for Susquehanna last season.
The senior scored all 40 points for the Lady Sabers Tuesday, putting them in second place in the Class 2A girls team standings behind LTC Division 3 champion Lakeland’s 69.
Madison Zalewski, Marygrace Sabatini, Emma Horsley and Maggie Coleman led Abington Heights to the team championship.
Zalewski won the javelin and high jump, making her one of just three winners of multiple individual events along with Norris and Riverside distance runner Lacey Danilovitz (1600 and 3200).
After winning two relays last season, Abington Heights swept all three with Sabatini being the rare contributor to all three by running 100, 400 and 800 legs.
Horsley won the 800 and was part of the 1600 and 3200 relays.
Coleman was part of both the 400 and 1600 relay victories.
Tomara Seid won the triple jump for the other Abington Heights individual victory.
LTC Division 2 champion Wallenpaupack finished third, four points behind North Pocono, with the help of wins by hurdlers Abby Kimler and Ella Smith and shot putter Grace Steffen.
Rachael Collins won the 400 to lead fourth-place Honesdale.
Lakeland’s Class 2A title was led by Anna Liuzzo’s win in the discus.
