The North Pocono boys and Crestwood girls both won District 2 Class 3A cross country titles in 2021, but find themselves in Class 2A for the next two seasons.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association reviews separate, three-grade enrollment figures for boys and girls at each member school every two years. Enrollment classifications for each sport are then adjusted accordingly.
There are several changes impacting cross country teams in District 2.
Tunkhannock still has a Class 2A enrollment, but will move up and compete in Class 3A for both boys and girls.
Wilkes-Barre Area did not have any girls competitors last season, but is in Class 3A where it had competed in 2020.
Riverside moves from Class A to 2A in both boys and girls.
Dunmore also joins Class 2A boys, up from Class A.
Carbondale and Nanticoke, which had entries in 2020, but not 2021, are again listed as Class 2A boys teams.
Like Crestwood, Wallenpaupack makes the move from Class 3A to 2A in girls.
There are 39 girls cross country teams in District 2, but just 37 boys with Forest City and Western Wayne not expected to have a team. Neither had boys entries on the district level last season.
