Old Forge climbs to No. 1 position

In a week when all of the other ranked Small Schools lost, Old Forge kept its winning streak going.

The Blue Devils defeated Mid Valley, 4-0, to extend their winning streak to five games and climb past the Spartans and Holy Redeemer into the top spot among Small Schools in the Riverfront Sports Super Six Baseball Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

The new rankings were posted Tuesday afternoon.

The Big School rankings remained exactly the same as a week ago while four of the Small School spots changed.

Hazleton Area remains as the No. 1 Big School, as it has been all season.

The Cougars lead Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 and the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional in their attempt to extend title streaks in each.

North Pocono, Dallas, Pittston Area, Abington Heights and Honesdale are second through sixth, in order.

North Pocono leads Lackawanna League Division 1 and the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional. Dallas leads District 2 Class 4A while Honesdale leads Lackawanna Division 2.

Honesdale, which saw its 10-game winning streak broken by Scranton Prep, was the only one of the ranked Big Schools to lose during the week.

Old Forge, the new Small School No. 1, has only lost once to another Small School. The Blue Devils, who lead the race for the top seed in the District 2 Class 2A playoffs, lost three early-season games against Big Schools.

Mid Valley split with lower-ranked schools, beating Dunmore after falling to Old Forge, and held on to second.

Holy Redeemer dropped from third to fourth after splitting two games. WVC Division 2-leading Royals are 1-3 since starting 9-0.

Lake-Lehman won two out of three games to hold on to fourth.

Riverside continued to move in and out of the rankings. The Vikings went 3-0 during the week, pulling out a pair of one-run victories, to come back in as the fifth-ranked team.

Dunmore slipped from fifth to sixth.

Lackawanna Division 3 leader Elk Lake dropped out of the rankings after its six-game winning streak was broken by Blue Ridge.
