The District 2 officiating crew of Fred Ceccacci, Steve Modrovsky and Stacey Williams worked the opening game of the 3-day, 12-game series of Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association basketball championships at The Giant Center in Hershey.

Ceccaci, Modrovsky and Williams officiated the Class A girls game in which Kennedy Catholic defeated Homer-Center, 65-45, Thursday afternoon.

The championships are scheduled to conclude Saturday night with the Class 6A boys game, the last of the day’s four games.

Title celebration

The Dunmore Lady Bucks were escorted in and out of town to cheers from supporters Friday before and after their 42-30, Class 3A championship game victory over River Valley.

The title was the first for a Dunmore team since the football team won in Class A in 1989. It was the first for a District 2 basketball team since Abington Heights in Class 5A boys in 2018, the first by a District 2 girls basketball team since Bishop Hoban (now part of Holy Redeemer) in 1999 and the first by a Lackawanna League girls team since Riverside in 1987.

The celebration of the title continued Friday at noon when a parade was held through Dunmore, culminating in a pep rally at the school’s football stadium.

Familiar faces

Lancaster Mennonite and Imhotep Charter, the teams that eliminated Holy Cross and Abington Heights, won Friday’s boys titles.
