PIAA state playoff schedules set

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association has announced the sites and times for Saturday’s state quarterfinal boys lacrosse game and boys volleyball match as well as Monday’s first-round baseball and softball games.

District 2 has one team each left in volleyball and lacrosse, plus six baseball and six softball teams entering into state play.

Wyoming Seminary, the District 2 champion, faces District 3 runner-up Lampeter-Strasburg Saturday at Emmaus at 11 a.m. in the Class 2A boys lacrosse quarterfinals.

After finishing third in the District 1-2-11 Subregional, Blue Ridge advanced with a first-round win. The Raiders face District 3 champion Lower Dauphin Saturday at noon at Wilkes University in Class 2A boys volleyball.

Monday’s baseball schedule includes:

Hazleton Area putting its 20-game winning streak on the line against District 1 third-place Coatesville at the Mountain Top American Legion Field at 4:30 after winning the District 2-4 Subregional title in Class 6A.

District 2 champion Wyoming Area (20-4) playing District 4 champion Montoursville (16-5) at Wilkes University at 4:30 in Class 4A.

District 2 champ Lake-Lehman (18-5) playing District 11 champion Panther Valley (18-6) at Misericordia University at 4:30 in Class 3A while District 2 runner-up Scranton Prep (10-10) plays District 4 champion Central Columbia (17-1) on its home field at 6.

Holy Cross (10-8) returning to the site of District 2 championship game upset of Riverside to face District 4 champion South Williamsport (16-5) at the University of Scranton at 4:30 in Class 2A.

District 2 champion MMI Prep (6-14) gets to play at home in Class A against District 1 champion Jenkintown at 4:30 p.m.

In Monday’s softball schedule:

Pittston Area, District 2’s only unbeaten spring team in any sport, gets to play at home in Class 5A. The District 2-4 Subregional champions (21-0) play District 3 third-place finisher South Western (18-4) from York on the Primary Center Field.

District 2 champion Tunkhannock (17-6) hits the road to play District 4 champion Shamokin (14-7) at Central Columbia at 7.

Mid Valley (19-2) is also at home. The District 2 champion Spartanettes (19-2) play District 3 runner-up Susquenita (19-4) in Class 3A at 4.

District 2 champion Elk Lake (19-2) heads to Elm Park in Williamsport to face District 4 champion South Williamsport (15-5) at 4:30 in Class 2A.

Old Forge plays first. The District 2 champion (11-8) Blue Devils play at the University of Scranton at 1 p.m. vs. District 4 runner-up Cowanesque Valley (18-5).
