Playoff effort boosts Trojans

The four regular-season division champions all avoided upsets in their conference playoffs, keeping the top of the Riverfront Super Six Golf Power Rankings of District 2 teams the same this week.

North Pocono’s move from No. 4 to No. 3 among Big Schools was the only change when the new rankings were released Sunday night.

The only competition in the past week was the four divisional finals, which were all won by teams that went unbeaten in their divisions during the season.

Those teams will get together Tuesday at Fox Hill Country Club for the District 2 Boys Team Golf Championships.

No. 1 Big School Crestwood will face No. 2 Abington Heights, which needed a sudden-death playoff to get past North Pocono in the Lackawanna League Class 3A final. North Pocono, which tied Abington Heights in one of two regularly scheduled meetings, was tied with the Comets against after 18 holes at Elkview Country Club.

North Pocono bumped Hazleton Area, which was not able to mount much of a challenge to Crestwood, to No. 4.

Honesdale and Wyoming Area remained fifth and sixth.

No. 1 Small School Lake-Lehman makes its third straight district final appearance where it will try to end No. 2 Scranton Prep’s six-year run as champion.

Lackawanna Trail, Riverside, Holy Redeemer and Montrose remained in the third through sixth positions.
