Mount Carmel churned out 22 first downs with 382 yards rushing and 10-for-11 passing to defeat visiting Dunmore, 42-14, Friday night in a non-league football game.
The Red Tornadoes, ranked third in the state in Class 2A by PennLive.com, used a dozen ballcarriers, none for more than eight carries, to average 9.6 yards on 40 attempts.
Cole Spears went 10-for-11 for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Mount Carmel scored the first two touchdowns.
Dunmore’s Thomas Bowen hit Domenic DeSando for a 31-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7.
Mike Farronato answered with a 26-yard touchdown for Mount Carmel and, after Daniel Pigga returned the kickoff for a Dunmore score, Farranato scored again on a 21-yard run for a 28-14 halftime lead.
The Red Tornadoes (2-0) then held the Bucks (1-1) scoreless in the second half, controlling the clock for a time of possession advantage of 27:08-20:52.
